Job Description
A veterinary practice, initially established in 2017 as a single-vet clinic, has grown into a team of 17, including 3.5 FTE veterinary surgeons, a practice manager, client care advisors, VCAs, student nurses, and RVNs.
The founder, with small animal practice experience since 2005, is an Advanced Practitioner in Surgery and holds a certificate in Diagnostic Imaging. One veterinarian, who qualified in 2012, recently returned to work after the birth of her second child and has a keen interest in ophthalmology. Another, a 2020 graduate, is already halfway through a certificate in ECC. RVNs excel in schedule 3 procedures, client clinics, diagnostic imaging, and anesthesia monitoring.
Despite being under the “corporate” umbrella, they operate individually, allowing for unique ways of working.
About Their Practice:
Clients typically have insurance or the means to afford comprehensive pet care, including in-house diagnostics. The practice emphasizes advanced surgery, including laparoscopy and some orthopaedics. With a digital x-ray and a state-of-the-art ultrasound scanner (with cardiac capabilities), veterinary surgeons offer advanced diagnostic imaging. While commercially driven, there is active participation in the local community by collaborating with animal charities to subsidize treatments.
Providing a comprehensive service is crucial, with extended hours until 8 pm on weekdays and weekends, shared equally among the team. Out-of-hours services are provided at a referral/emergency hospital 7 miles away.
The Role:
As a Veterinary Surgeon Training practice, RCVS GP-accredited, a Cat-Friendly Clinic (Silver), and newly a VetGDP approved practice, they maintain high standards.
Outside of work, the team has various hobbies, and many enjoy baking. Regular veterinary surgeon meetings often take place in the pub!
Their mission is to bring advanced veterinary care to local first-opinion practice, making it accessible to all. Veterinary surgeons strive for excellence in patient care and a positive, respectful, and caring environment for colleagues.
An experienced, confident veterinary surgeon is sought who can deliver high-level care for patients and clients while fitting seamlessly into the team culture.
About you:
- Is experienced in small animal practice, proficient in routine surgery and consultations, with an interest in emergency work (evenings and weekends).
- Shares values and brings unique ideas and life experiences to the veterinary surgeon team.
- Aims to establish lasting client relationships.
- Is open to learning, embracing change, and keen on sharing skills and knowledge.
- Has a love for all domestic pets.

They offer a generous CPD allowance, encouraging professional development, and support for pursuing a certificate. Work-life balance is a priority, with full-time veterinary surgeons working a 4-day week, a set day off, and a mix of early and late shifts. Weekend rotas are shared equally.
As a market leader in small animal veterinary care, veterinary surgeons provide:
- Salary £45,000 to £60,000
- Excellent career opportunities
- Contributory pension scheme
- Generous CPD
- Paid memberships (RCVS, BVA, VDS)
