Our client is seeking a Registered Veterinary Nurse to join their team for a 12-month Fixed Term Contract to cover maternity leave. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a small animal practice that is part of a well-established retail environment. The practice boasts a state-of-the-art facility, creating an engaging and supportive work environment.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to join a collaborative team of 4 vets, 6 nurses, 1 VCA, and an exceptional client care team. With access to modern veterinary equipment such as digital X-ray, Doppler blood pressure monitoring, capnography, ECG, ultrasound, and an incubator, they’ll contribute to both routine and advanced care. The nursing team collectively has over 90 years of experience, offering an incredible opportunity for professional growth in areas such as anaesthesia and exotic nursing. They also work closely with external specialists for soft tissue/orthopaedic surgery and other advanced procedures.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Perform general nursing duties, including patient admission, anaesthesia monitoring, and recovery.
  • Assist with surgeries and procedures, providing support in the theatre and prep areas.
  • Collaborate with Veterinary Care Assistants (VCAs) to ensure smooth daily operations.
  • Deliver excellent customer service and patient care at all times.
  • Contribute to the continued success and reputation of the clinic through high standards of care.

 

Requirements:

  • Registered Veterinary Nurse with the RCVS.
  • Relevant general nursing experience (newly qualified nurses are welcome to apply).
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • A team player with a positive, cheerful, and compassionate attitude.
  • Passionate about animal welfare and patient care.

  • Competitive salary of £28,000 to £30,000, depending on experience.

Shifts:

The role involves a mix of early (8:30 am – 5:00 pm) and late (10:30 am – 7:00 pm) shifts from Monday to Friday. Duties will include rotations in kennels, theatre, consults, and dispensary. Additionally, there is a 1 in 4 Saturday rotation (8:30 am – 5:00 pm), with consulting and surgical duties. No Sunday or out-of-hours work is required.
