Maternity Cover – Veterinary Surgeon

Duration: Until July 2026 (with potential for extension)

Are you a compassionate and dedicated Veterinary Surgeon looking to join a supportive, close-knit team where patient care comes first?

Our client is a well-established small animal practice offering the perfect balance of an independent practice feel with the security and support of a wider veterinary network.

This maternity cover role offers the opportunity to join an experienced and friendly team of vets, RVNs, and support staff. The successful candidate will work in a collaborative environment, contributing to both consultations and surgical procedures in a busy, well-equipped practice.

There may also be potential for a longer-term opportunity following the fixed-term period.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality care in both consultations and surgery
• Collaborate with the clinical team to support patient outcomes
• Work four days per week: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday (8:30am – 6:30pm)
• Take part in a 1-in-3 Saturday rota (8:30am – 12:00pm), with time off in lieu
• Build strong client relationships with clear, compassionate communication
• Uphold RCVS and practice standards
• Support a positive, team-focused practice culture
• They are happy to consider a three-day week alongside Saturdays for the right candidate.

Requirements

• MRCVS-qualified Veterinary Surgeon
• Confident in both consultations and routine surgery
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills
• Proactive, organised, and committed to patient welfare
• Previous experience in a small animal, first-opinion setting preferred
