Job Description

A thriving small animal practice is seeking a dedicated veterinary surgeon to join a friendly and collaborative team. Led by an Advanced Practitioner in Small Animal Surgery, the practice is recognised for its varied caseload, supportive environment, and commitment to delivering high standards of care.
This is a fantastic opportunity to join an experienced and passionate team, working alongside a full-time vet and a regular locum. The successful candidate will have the chance to:
- Work on a diverse caseload, including soft tissue surgery, orthopaedics, and exotic species
- Develop their own clinical interests – particularly in medicine, imaging, or cardiology
- Contribute to a referral-accepting practice equipped for complex surgeries and advanced diagnostics
- Become part of a team that prioritises clinical freedom, flexibility, and professional growth
The practice is ready to support development through CPD, new equipment, and further qualifications, including certificates.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities will include:
- Consulting and treating a varied small animal caseload
- Performing routine and advanced surgical procedures
- Supporting diagnostics and treatment planning
- Collaborating with an experienced nursing and support team
- Managing occasional sole charge responsibilities
- Optionally expanding the existing exotics caseload
- Maintaining accurate clinical records and delivering excellent client communication
Requirements
The ideal candidate will have:
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience in small animal clinical practice
- Confidence in consultations and general surgery
- An interest in medicine, imaging, or cardiology (preferred but not essential)
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- RCVS registration and eligibility to work in the UK
- A compassionate, client-focused approach
- Experience with exotic species (optional — support provided if desired)
