At NSV, there’s nothing we love more than helping veterinary professionals find their perfect role abroad. We pride ourselves on our ability to place veterinary professionals in a country of their choice all over the world including the United States, Canada, Australia, the UK, New Zealand and more.
Today, we’re delighted to share the story of Bridgette, an Australian vet who’s recently made the move to south-east England.
After completing her veterinary medicine degree at the University of Sydney, Bridgette embarked on an exciting career in mixed practice, working with everything from dairy cattle to the occasional kangaroo! Now, she’s found her home in a thriving independent small animal practice in the UK. Here’s her story of transformation and growth.
The Call to Adventure
For Bridgette, working as a vet in the UK had been a long-held ambition. “I was at a stage where I felt like I was ready to take on a new challenge,” she explains. “I wanted to learn from different people and different ways of doing things.”
While the proximity to Europe was certainly appealing, Bridgette’s motivation went deeper than just travel opportunities. Coming from a mixed practice background, she saw this as a chance to focus on small animal medicine and really develop her skills in this area.
Navigating the Challenges
Of course, moving halfway across the world comes with its share of challenges. “The biggest challenge was understanding the differences between the veterinary industry here and in Australia,” Bridgette says. From different clinic structures to varying approaches to emergency care, there was plenty to get her head around.
Geography caused some headaches too – like “finding the right place to live when I wasn’t familiar with the locations of a lot of the clinics I was looking into.”
How NSV Made the Difference
This is where our team at NSV stepped in. With our deep understanding of the UK veterinary landscape and the unique challenges overseas vets face, we were able to support Bridgette through every step of her journey.
“Craig and his team took time to answer any questions and find clinics that fitted well with what I was looking for,” Bridgette says. “They happily talked me through what different cities and towns were like and what the caseload and role would look like depending on the location.”
But our support didn’t stop at finding the right role. We helped Bridgette with everything from finding rental accommodation to setting up banking and reviewing contracts. Even after she started her new position, we continued to check in regularly to ensure she was settling in well.
A Perfect Match
What really stands out in Bridgette’s story is the importance of finding the right fit. “I never felt like he was trying to push me into a job to just fill a spot,” she says of working with Craig at NSV. “He genuinely cared about finding me a role that I would be happy with, as well as the clinic feeling that I was the right fit for them.”
Today, Bridgette is thriving in her new role, bringing her unique experience from Australian mixed practice to benefit her UK patients and colleagues. It’s exactly the kind of success story we love to be part of at NSV.
