Job Description
This respected small animal first-opinion practice is a cherished part of the local community, with a loyal and thriving client base built organically through word of mouth. They are seeking an experienced Head Veterinary Nurse to join their close-knit, vibrant team dedicated to delivering excellence in patient care.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to lead and support a skilled team of Registered Veterinary Nurses and receptionists, working collaboratively to provide outstanding care for patients and clients alike. You will contribute to the smooth running of the practice, oversee clinical standards, and help develop nurse-led services. This role will also involve some weekends at a flagship hospital with access to advanced diagnostics, including CT and MRI.
Responsibilities
Client Care
- Deliver exceptional care to clients every day.
Patient Care
- Support the vet with operations and procedures.
- Carry out nurse-led appointments.
- Monitor and care for patients, including admissions and discharges.
- Maintain accurate patient records.
- Dispense and check medications.
- Provide day-to-day care, such as feeding, walking and toileting.
- Transfer patients to out-of-hours care when required.
Standards and Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory and practice standards.
- Uphold health and safety requirements.
- Implement agreed clinical and operational standards.
Communications
- Hold daily briefings to coordinate team activities.
- Share timely clinical updates and improvements.
- Run engaging meetings with the nursing team.
Clinical Leadership
- Coach and support the development of the nursing team.
- Promote nurse-led appointments and Schedule 3 procedures.
- Share clinical best practice across the practice.
- Ensure clarity on daily responsibilities and tasks.
Clinical Administration
- Take and process samples as directed by the vet.
- Manage laboratory tests and stock orders.
- Prepare the practice for procedures.
- Escalate any issues appropriately.
Requirements
- Must be an RCVS-registered nurse.
- Confident in leading and developing a clinical team.
- Skilled in planning and managing team workload.
- Committed to promoting a progressive clinical culture through nurse clinics and consultations.
- Strong communication and coaching abilities.
- Able to work collaboratively and deliver exceptional client care.
